An educational and inclusive mission
Through its chess lessons and courses in Belgium, Qb4 aims to make chess accessible to everyone. The association develops specific initiatives aimed at young people, groups under-represented in the world of chess and institutions wishing to incorporate this discipline into their educational programmes.
Chess serves as a tool for personal development, strategic thinking and cultural transmission. The chess lessons and courses organised by Qb4 are part of this commitment to inclusivity.
The chess course: a structured learning programme
The in-person or online chess lessons offered by Qb4 are aimed at both children and adults. The sessions are organised by level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) to ensure a consistent and fair learning experience.
For beginners, the lessons focus on understanding the rules, mastering how the pieces move on the board, and reading the board. At an intermediate level, the focus shifts to openings, tactics, game analysis and strategic management against an opponent. More advanced players can refine their preparation for a competition or tournament and improve their overall performance.
The chess course: an intensive programme designed to help you improve quickly
The chess course is a particularly effective way to take your game to the next level. Run over several consecutive days, it combines theoretical instruction, practical play at the chessboard and group analysis of games.
Participants are grouped by level to ensure a suitable learning environment. This approach encourages concentration, independence and decision-making, whilst retaining an element of fun and education.
FAQ
Chess courses and camps in Belgium
Is chess a sport?
Yes. Chess is classified as a mind sport and is recognised as a sport in its own right by numerous national and international bodies, notably the International Chess Federation (FIDE). Although it is an intellectual rather than a physical sport, it is based on competition, official rules, an ELO rating system and a structured organisation comparable to other sports.
Why learn to play chess?
Learning to play chess helps develop essential skills, both intellectual and personal. This strategy game requires concentration, memory, anticipation and the ability to analyse a situation before making a decision.
For children, chess encourages logical thinking, patience and self-confidence . For teenagers and adults, it provides excellent mental exercise, stimulating decision-making and stress management. Chess courses and structured training programmes allow these skills to be developed further in a professional and supportive environment.
Beyond competition, learning chess means immersing yourself in a truly international culture, participating in a recognized sport, and developing strategic thinking skills that are useful in many areas of life.
Are there any courses or workshops suitable for children?
Yes. The chess camps for children and courses designed for young people are structured to make learning both fun and structured. During these camps or courses, children learn about the pieces, moves, rules and fundamental principles of the game, whilst developing their concentration, memory and logical thinking.
Groups of players are organised by age group and ability level to ensure appropriate supervision.
What is the difference between a face-to-face course and an online course?
Lessons are available in person or online to suit everyone’s circumstances and preferences.
In face-to-face lessons, learning encourages direct interaction with the teacher, practical work on the chessboard and regular matches against other players. This format fosters group dynamics and the immediate application of the concepts covered.
In the online format, lessons are structured around digital tools that enable players to analyse positions, replay games and communicate in real time. This format offers flexibility and accessibility, whilst maintaining rigorous educational supervision under the guidance of a FIDE-certified instructor and/or a professional player.
